Platform Engineer - Infrastructure Control Plane & Workflow Automation
Julius Baer is looking for a Platform Engineer in Zurich to develop Kubernetes-native control plane solutions using Golang and Crossplane, as well as to build workflow automations. The role involves designing self-service infrastructures, migrating automation tools, and providing technical guidance to product teams in a DevOps environment.
Job Title
- Platform Engineer - Infrastructure Control Plane & Workflow Automation 100% (f/m/d)
About the Role
- At Julius Baer, we are committed to empowering our teams through a DevOps-driven approach. We focus on developing scalable platforms that enable our product teams to serve themselves based on their infrastructure and resource needs.
- As our application landscape evolves, we are investing in the expansion of our infrastructure automation tools, and we are looking for a Platform Engineer to join our team.
Tasks
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of Kubernetes-native control plane solutions, including Crossplane, and build providers and functions in Go following the Kubernetes Operator pattern
- Design and expand self-service infrastructure offerings that enable product teams to provision their own resources reliably and at scale
- Build and maintain workflow automation on our orchestration platform, including reviewing the underlying business logic in JavaScript and other scripting languages
- Evaluate and migrate to a new automation tooling stack; therefore, adaptability is required when evaluating new tooling capabilities and contributing to the setup of the new platform
- Empower and coach product teams on how to build and expand their own automation capabilities on top of our infrastructure platform, through documentation, workshops, and hands-on guidance—supporting our “coaching platform” strategy beyond simply building the platform itself
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment with business objectives using a product management mindset
- Contribute technical expertise to the team and help shape technical roadmaps and deliverables for our automation platforms
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across the control plane and automation workflow
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in cloud-native computing, Kubernetes, and infrastructure automation, and apply this knowledge to continuously improve our solutions
- Contribute to technical documentation, including design documents, implementation plans, and operational procedures
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and organizational policies
Your Profile
- At least 3 years of experience developing and operating Kubernetes Operators, ideally using the Crossplane framework, to provision and continuously reconcile resources
- Experience building or extending infrastructure automation tools, including writing business logic using JavaScript, Python, PowerShell, or similar—in-depth expertise in any specific vendor tool is not required, as we understand that tools change over time
- Solid knowledge of Kubernetes and the cloud-native computing ecosystem
- Strong understanding of software development practices, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tools
- Experience with Go and at least one scripting language, such as JavaScript, PowerShell, or Python
