Principal Automation Engineer

As a Principal Automation Engineer at Northern Trust in Pune, you will develop and implement company-wide automation solutions with a focus on Bash, Python, Linux, and cloud technologies. The role involves providing technical leadership for projects, designing automation frameworks, and mentoring junior engineers.

Tasks

  • Implementation of the Strategic Automation Roadmap
  • Development and Implementation of Complex Automation Solutions
  • Design, Development, and Implementation of Business Automation Solutions
  • Close collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify opportunities for efficiency and improve operational effectiveness through automation
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives and deliver automation solutions that meet organizational requirements
  • Management of complex automation platforms, tools, and workflows
  • Architecture, Design, and Implementation of Reusable Automation Frameworks and Libraries
  • Overseeing the implementation of various enterprise software platforms within the technology ecosystem
  • Contribute to the design, development, and deployment of automation systems that leverage existing infrastructure and capabilities
  • Promoting innovation in business automation by identifying new technologies and techniques
  • Ensuring the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of automation solutions
  • Mentoring and coaching junior engineers in automation best practices and skills development
  • Conducting peer reviews to maintain high code quality and consistency
  • Implementation and enforcement of automation standards and processes within the organization
  • Providing oversight and guidance on the adoption and implementation of automation strategies
  • Leading engineering teams focused on company-wide automation projects
  • Translating Software Requirements into Automation Solutions
  • Development of Automation Solutions and Software Development Practices
  • Work in management roles, transitioning from the design, architecture, and development of automation solutions to exploring automation opportunities

Requirements

  • 15+ years of experience in software development
  • 5+ years of leadership experience in software development
  • 6+ years of experience in Bash scripting
  • 2+ years of experience with Linux and AWS
  • 7+ years of experience in automation engineering, ideally 5+ years in a management position
  • 5–15 years of experience in automation
  • Basic knowledge of scripting and Linux
  • Experience with CI/CD and Python
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform and Ansible)
  • AWS Experience
  • A completed college degree (bachelor's) in computer science, software engineering, or a related field
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
  • Knowledge of and experience with enterprise automation tools and frameworks
  • Tool Development Experience
  • Effective Communication and Collaboration Skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and stay up to date on industry trends
