Principal Financial and Quantitative Engineer AVP
The Principal Financial and Quantitative Engineer is responsible for solution creation of AI services for the Global Advisors business at State Street and leads a team of financial and quantitative engineers. The role requires experience in financial model development, valuation and programming as well as strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Principal Financial and Quantitative Engineer AVP
Tasks
- Lead a small, agile team to deliver high-impact features analysis/engineering and financial model solutions/frameworks to meet the changing business needs of our clients and CIG; collaborate with global teams to execute global projects and ensure model validation and testing practices
- Promote modern model AI tools to design and develop financial model solutions and improve traditional model development approaches and increase productivity
- Design, test and mentor junior financial and quantitative engineers; ensure our continued growth and development; foster a high performing team culture
- Responsibility for planning and delivering high performance analytics; natural programming, financial model design, coding, unit testing and integration; and performing model validations
- Support for quality assurance tests, user tests and bug fixes
- Support for production problems and implementation of ongoing improvements
Requirements
- Master's degree required (preferably in financial engineering, mathematical finance, operations research or other engineering topics)
- 5+ years of experience in financial engineering, preferably in AI models
- 3+ years of experience in modern, object-oriented functional programming (Python, SQL and/or similar) with AI code generation tools such as ONIX Co-pilot
- Extensive experience in supporting investment research, portfolio management and trading
- Extensive experience with market data and sentiment analysis, portfolio optimization, security or market-based investment decisions; coding skills and/or algorithm development a plus
- Familiarity with traditional buy-side quantitative methods and models that are well understood by industry professionals such as portfolio managers, traders, risk managers, clients and regulators
- Solid background in mathematical concepts, including but not limited to statistical theory, PDE, linear algebra, stochastic calculus, differential equations, etc.
- Previous experience as Principal/Senior Financial Analyst or Financial Engineer
- Results-oriented, detail-oriented and strong attention to detail
Desired qualifications
- Previous experience leading a financial engineering or modeling team at a medium or large buy- or sell-side firm
- In-depth Level 2 modeling such as interest rate, spread, FX, momentum, sector and technical fundamental analysis
- Data science and machine learning frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, Spark, Scikit-learn, MATLAB etc.)
- Unix / Linux scripting, structured and unstructured data management tools (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, KDB+, Hadoop etc.)
- Strong analytical skills; prior extensive experience in statistics or data science is valuable
- Certified Financial Analyst (CFA) or equivalent
