Quant Developer - AHL

The job posting is seeking a Quant Developer for the AHL team at Man Group in London, who has experience in developing quantitative models and algorithms, as well as knowledge of programming languages such as Python and data analysis techniques. The successful candidate will be part of a small, international team and will work on developing cutting-edge systems for systematic trading.

The role

As a Quant Developer at Man Group, you will be part of one of our flagship teams within Man’s systematic trading arm, AHL. The team works closely with AHL’s research team to develop and maintain cutting-edge systematic models. Your responsibilities will be diverse and will include creating new alpha ideas as well as maintaining existing ones.

The team

Quant developers are part of a larger technology team consisting of over 100 individuals representing eight nationalities. We have academic backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, and even classical music, but what unites us is a passion for technology and writing high-quality code.

Our technology

Our systems run almost exclusively on Linux, and most of our code is written in Python, using the full scientific stack: numpy, scipy, and pandas. We strive to use the best open-source libraries. We implement systems that achieve the highest data throughput through the use of GPUs. We use:
  • Afineo for Workflow Management
  • Kafka for data pipelines
  • Bitbucket for source code management
  • Docker for Continuous Integration
  • Grafana + Prometheus for metric collection
  • ELK for log shipping and monitoring
  • Docker and Kubernetes for Containerization
  • Ansible and Terraform for our on-premises infrastructure
  • Akita for Internal Communications

Requirements

Essential:
  • Extensive technical skills; recognized by your colleagues and as an expert in your field
  • A strong interest in and understanding of financial markets and instruments
  • A passion for solving complex problems; agile development, component integration, coding, unit testing, self-directed learning, and rapid prototyping
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages; Python preferred
  • Strong knowledge of Python
  • Experience with data analysis techniques and relevant libraries, such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas
  • Relevant mathematical knowledge, e.g., statistics, asset pricing theory, optimization algorithms

Advantages

Advantageous:
  • Experience in developing quantitative software for the front office, e.g., at a hedge fund or investment bank
  • Experience with web-based development technologies and visualization technologies for presenting large and complex datasets and real-time analytics
  • Experience with machine learning techniques, natural language processing, and relevant libraries and frameworks, such as scikit-learn and TensorFlow
  • A strong academic background and a degree with a significant focus on mathematics and computer science, such as computer science, mathematics, or engineering (e.g., physics) from top universities
