Quant Developer - AHL Technology

The position as Quant Developer at Man Group in London offers the opportunity to be part of a team in the Systematic Trading division and to develop new alpha and trading strategies. The ideal candidate will have outstanding technical skills, experience in software development, and a deep understanding of financial markets and instruments.

The role

As a Quant Developer at Man Group, you will be part of one of our flagship teams in Man's systematic trading arm—AHL. The team works closely with quant researchers to build study models. Your challenges will be varied and will include creating new alpha and trading strategies.

The team

Quant developers at Man Group are part of our broader technology team, which consists of over 60 professionals working in four main technology areas: infrastructure (networks, databases), mathematics, physics, and engineering. Our developers are organized into small, cross-functional teams, with two types of engineering roles:
  • Software developers who focus on the code
  • DevOps/engineers who frequently interact with DevOps, as some of our teams are focused on specific asset classes or types

Our technology

Almost all of our systems run on Linux, and most of our code is written in Python, using the full scientific stack: numpy, scipy, pandas, with a dash of the usual suspects such as Boost. We implement the systems that require the highest throughput in C++ and C#.

Essential

  • Excellent technological skills; recognized by your colleagues as an expert in your field
  • A strong interest in and understanding of financial markets and instruments
  • A passion for development and/or software engineering; expertise in techniques and methods; agile development, continuous integration, Node.js, unit testing, refactoring, and related approaches
  • Strong knowledge of programming techniques and technologies with C/C++/Java/Python
  • Knowledge of Linux platforms with knowledge of various scripting languages
  • Experience with data analysis techniques using Python, e.g., Pandas/NumPy/Scipy, BeautifulSoup/Parsing
  • Relevant mathematical knowledge, e.g., statistics, actuarial science, price theory, optimization algorithms

Advantageous

  • Experience with front-office quantitative software development, e.g., in a hedge fund or investment bank
  • Experience with cross-asset development and visualization technology for the presentation of large and complex data analytics and information systems
  • Experience with machine learning techniques, natural language processing, and related libraries and frameworks, e.g., scikit-learn, Tensorflow

Personal characteristics

  • Strong academic background and a degree with a high mathematical and computer science content, e.g., computer science, mathematics, engineering, or physics from a leading university
  • Off-the-shelf approach to coding; best practices, z
