Quantitative Researchers – Discretionary
Man Group is seeking a Quantitative Researcher to drive the development and improvement of discretionary investment strategies through quantitative research. The ideal candidate will work with portfolio managers to integrate quantitative methods and artificial intelligence into the investment process.
Purpose of the role
We are looking for a talented quantitative researcher to join our team and drive the use of quantitative methods in discretionary investing at Man Group. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development and improvement of discretionary investment strategies through quantitative research, leveraging strong market knowledge and a keen interest in helping portfolio managers incorporate AI tools into their daily processes.The team
PM Research is a team of quantitative researchers focused on delivering high-quality research to support the discretionary portfolio management teams at Man Group. The team works on a variety of projects, including measuring and interpreting market signals, developing portfolio management tools, conducting behavioral analysis, and developing AI tools to support the investment process.Your tasks
* Work with colleagues on discretionary portfolio management to add value to their process through signal development, data-driven modeling, and testing/developing market heuristics, and to develop a deep familiarity with the markets and sectors in which they trade * Assist in the construction and maintenance of discretionary portfolios, using mix modeling, portfolio construction, and optimization * Backtest and implement signals using traditional and alternative data sources * Conduct research and statistical analysis to examine and evaluate strategy performance, and help identify and understand where discretionary PM teams can benefit from new signals (and in general), and suggest how they can be deployed * Collaborating effectively with team members and communicating complex technical concepts to a broad technical audience * Staying up to date with market trends and continuously seeking opportunities to improve existing processes and technologies using quantitative techniques * Helping to identify and integrate AI tools into PMs’ workflows where they add value to research, screening, or decision-makingYour skills and experience
* Ability to translate technical details into language that non-experts can understand * Strong understanding of data science and quantitative analysis * Understanding of portfolio construction and optimization * Experience with equity risk models * Experience working with large datasets, including sector- and stock-specific drivers of returns * Strong knowledge of Python and/or an equivalent programming language and the ability to pick up new ideas * Exceptional academic background, preferably in a STEM field * Strong knowledge of statistical methods and experience with data analysis techniques and relevant libraries * Previous experience with approximation techniques such as Monte Carlo is a plus * Experience in a similar role and an understanding of how investment research works, as well as comfort debating investment ideas with portfolio managers, is a strong plus * Ideally, experience in a quantitative research role, direct experience working with discretionary portfolio management teams, and hands-on experience building such tools is a plus * Familiarity with the use of LLM-based tools in investment data workflows, and hands-on experience with such tools is a plusInclusion, Compensation, Learning, and Benefits at Man Group
