Quantitative Researcher – Macro Assets

The Quantitative Researcher – Macro Assets at Man Group in London will be responsible for conducting quantitative research on global macro assets to develop forecasting models and trading strategies. The ideal candidate has experience in researching alpha signals, strong Python skills, and a solid foundation in statistical and computer-based methods.

The role

You will conduct original quantitative research on global macro assets and develop and test predictive signals that inform our trading strategies. You will work across the entire research process—from hypothesis development to backtesting, calibration, and live strategy modeling, through to implementation and ongoing performance analysis—with direct access to low-latency strategy management. On a day-to-day basis, you will:
  • Conduct research and development of alpha signals across global macro asset classes, with a focus on trend timing and directional strategies
  • Identifying Opportunities for Alpha Through Macroeconomic Investments
  • Design and evaluate predictive signals using appropriate statistical and quantitative methods
  • Contribute to portfolio construction and risk analysis regarding the sector's strategies
  • Present and facilitate regular portfolio attribution and backtesting workshops
  • Collaborate with researchers at AHL Global Macro and contribute to the broader research agenda

Technology and business skills

  • 2+ years of experience in researching alpha signals using macro-scale systems
  • A solid foundation in statistical and computer-based methods to choose the right tool for the right problem
  • Strong Python skills; comfortable working with large financial datasets
  • Experience in machine learning is preferred
  • Familiarity with transaction costs and their impact on signal design is a plus

Personal attributes

  • Strong academic background with a degree in a quantitative field—mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, or engineering
  • Experience in a data-driven environment—if you've worked with P&L and/or market data, that's great
  • Practical and thorough; you enjoy following an idea from its inception through to a tested and implemented solution
  • Self-organized, with the ability to manage multiple research projects by a specific deadline
  • Strong communication skills to present quantifiable results to colleagues in a precise and constructive manner
  • Collaboration, made easy with researchers, technologists, and portfolio managers
