Quantitative Researcher – Macro Assets
The Quantitative Researcher – Macro Assets at Man Group is responsible for conducting original alpha research on global macro assets and developing predictive signals to inform the company’s trading strategies. The ideal candidate has experience in alpha signal research, strong Python skills, and a solid foundation in statistical and mathematical modeling.
The role
You will conduct original alpha research on global macro assets and develop and test predictive signals that inform our trading strategies. You will work across the entire research lifecycle—from hypothesis generation to implementation and ongoing performance analysis—with direct access to live strategy management. On a day-to-day basis, you will:- Conduct research and development of alpha signals across global asset classes, with a focus on trend-following and directional strategies
- Identify the parameters of alpha signals (data, foreign exchange, stocks, commodities) to detect exploitable patterns
- Design and evaluate predictive signals using proprietary statistical and quantitative methods
- Contribute to portfolio construction for both discretionary and systematic strategies
- Participate in live trading and contribute to trading decisions and strategy discussions
- Collaborate with researchers across AHL Global Macro and contribute to the broader research program
Technology and business skills
- 2+ years of experience in researching alpha signals across macro strategies
- A solid foundation in statistical and mathematical modeling to be able to select the right tool for the right problem
- Strong Python skills; comfortable working with large financial datasets
- Experience with standard libraries and open-source toolkits
- Familiarity with transaction costs and their impact on signal development is a plus
Personal attributes
- Strong academic background with a degree in a quantitative field—mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science, or a related field
- Committed and motivated, with the ability to earn a PhD or CFA designation
- Intellectually curious, with a genuine interest in financial markets and the micro-forces that drive them
- Practical and rigorous; you enjoy following an idea from its inception through to a tested and implemented solution
- Self-organized, with the ability to bring multiple projects or ideas to a clear conclusion
- Clear and effective communication skills to present quantitative results concisely and interact constructively with researchers, technologists, and portfolio managers
- Collaboration, facilitated by close cooperation with researchers, technologists, and portfolio managers
