Research Associate

The role of Research Associate involves selecting fund managers, particularly for mutual funds, as well as participating in portfolio construction discussions and monitoring investments. The ideal candidate should have experience in asset management and excellent communication skills.

Job description

The primary role involves responsibility for selecting managers, which may extend to investment funds as well as alternative investments. The incumbent is expected to participate in discussions regarding portfolio construction and to carry out the daily monitoring and reporting of all relevant products. The application of investment expertise to the role of manager selection is carried out through a rigorous due diligence process. In the future, this role may apply to the three main product groups: traditional investments, hedge funds (alternatives), and private equity.

Tasks and responsibilities

  • Primary focus on achieving due diligence objectives during the onboarding of investment funds
  • Coverage of all regions and asset classes for traditional long-only investments
  • Potential to expand coverage to alternative investments
  • Contribution to the ongoing development of analytical and qualitative processes
  • Maintaining a general understanding of markets, from both macroeconomic and microeconomic perspectives
  • Preparation of materials for internal and commercial purposes, such as investment memos and analyses
  • Presenting new ideas, investment opportunities, and exploring new possibilities
  • Oral and written presentations
  • Building relationships with external partners and taking responsibility for these relationships
  • Ongoing interactions to stay informed about the latest developments among managers and across the industry
  • Collaboration with other business units, such as Risk, Compliance, Legal, Operations, and Commercial (Private Bank)
  • Responsibility is assumed by the individual as continuous and ongoing
  • Representing the FOF team both internally and externally with a high level of expertise and professionalism

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in economics, business administration, or a quantitative field is preferred but not required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in asset management, funds of funds, or family offices
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly MS Excel
  • Programming skills in SQL and Python are a plus
  • Knowledge of statistical and factor analysis is a plus
  • Knowledge of Morningstar is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, but also to collaborate as part of a team
  • Proficiency in English; proficiency in Portuguese and Spanish is a plus
  • On-site presence required (not a remote position)
