Risk Officer Management Company
The position of Risk Officer at J. Safra Sarasin in Basel involves responsibility for the risk management framework, the internal control system, and operational risk management as an independent second line of defense. The role requires 4–7 years of experience in risk management, as well as technical skills in Python and data analysis for automating controls and reports.
Your role
As Risk Officer at J. Safra Sarasin Investmentfonds AG, you will be responsible for the management company’s risk management framework—including the internal control system, operational risk, and supervision—and will serve as an independent second line of defense for the ManCo’s activities. You will provide strong process and data management capabilities for the Group’s risk controls and reporting, and enhance the quality and efficiency of operational processes.
Your tasks
- Maintain and further develop the JSSIF's internal control system; serve as a second line of defense to ensure that first-line controls are implemented, monitored, and adequate within the control framework
- Serve as a second line of defense for operational risk within a Swiss or Luxembourg management company, in the context of fund administration, auditing, or asset management
- Manage Operational Risk from Start to Finish: Incident Detection and Tracking, Monitoring of Operational KRIs, Oversight of the Key Control Matrix, Reporting, and Mitigation
- Conducting the annual Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) in accordance with the JSS Group's risk obligations
- Preparation of structured ManCo risk reports for the Executive Committee, the Risk Committee, and the Board, as well as monthly KRI reports for Group Risk Management
- Maintenance of the business continuity management system and the business continuity plan, including training and periodic reviews
- Act as a representative for the Fund Unit Oversight function and share responsibility for coordinating and maintaining the PRIIP KID
- Identify opportunities for improvement in control and data management across the entire organization and support units with technical expertise to make processes and controls better and more efficient
Your profile
- Higher education in finance, business, or a related field
- 4–7 years of practical experience in the field of risk management
- Practical knowledge of the relevant Swiss regulatory environment (FINMA, CISA/CollIA, FinSA/FinIA, AMAS, and LBA), FINOPSP regulations, FINMA guidelines, and self-regulation; knowledge of UCITS/AIFMD and CSSF requirements is a plus given the Group’s presence in Luxembourg
- Required experience with Python (data analysis such as pandas, datetime), databases (SQLAlchemy, pybeidb, xlwinger), Excel (openpyxl, xlsxwriter, xlwinger), matplotlib, and Seaborne
- Independent, organized, and results-oriented, with a willingness to challenge front-line assumptions; experience in designing and automating controls, KRI calculations, and KRI reporting, as well as in improving data quality, traceability, and process efficiency
- Strong work ethic, integrity, a high sense of responsibility, and a willingness to take on responsibility
- Fluency in English; knowledge of German is a plus
