Job Title: Sanctions Advisory Lead (Maternity Cover)

Role Overview

As Sanctions Advisory Lead, you will: * Be the primary point of contact for sanctions compliance matters, managing sanctions escalations from operations teams (including screening L1 analysts) and inquiries from across the organization. * Provide sanctions advice and expertise on external sanctions developments, company policy, and sanctions risk appetite to stakeholders. * Review potential and existing clients and transactions for sanctions and reputation-related risks and agree on further action with front office or operations teams or escalate the matter to senior management for decision. * Use your expertise to provide informed suggestions to senior management for the design of the sanctions control framework. * Monitor the operation of sanctions screening and filter controls. * Perform regular sample-based QA reviews of the work of Level 1 sanctions analysts in operations, including periodically reviewing and updating the sampling and review methodology to ensure it continues to provide an accurate picture of the performance of the operations teams. * Produce timely and accurate management information for Financial Crime senior management based on metrics from Operations and other relevant information. * Manage the development and delivery of sanctions training for all relevant stakeholders and across the business. * Provide subject matter expertise on sanctions matters to support change projects and business initiatives. * Prepare and submit regular reports to relevant regulatory authorities, e.g., OFSI.

Requirements

The successful candidate will have the following experience and skills: * Experience: The position requires experience in managing sanctions risks in a financial services company, including the sanctions implications of complex wholesale financial products and transactions, as well as sanctions risks arising from complex customer structures. Experience in monitoring key sanctions controls, including payment filtering, customer verification, and watchlist management, would be desirable. Demonstrable track record of managing relationships across all three lines of defense. * Sanctions knowledge: Strong technical sanctions advisory skills, combined with an understanding of current regulations, services, processes, and systems, including: + Strong international sanctions expertise. * Communication and stakeholder management: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to clearly articulate complex issues and solutions to non-experts and adapt your style to different audiences. Proven track record of building effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels of the organization, across all three lines of defense. * Mindset and attitude: Pragmatic, results-oriented, able to "hold the line" in conflict situations. Self-reliant and able to make decisions without constant supervision from management. Has the necessary judgment to escalate effectively when necessary. Collaborative and motivated by working closely with colleagues across the organization. Resilient and adaptable.
