The Julius Baer Group is seeking an experienced Sanctions Compliance Officer for its Global Sanctions Desk in Zurich, who will focus on monitoring transactions for sanctions risks and developing and implementing processes. The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of experience in banking, preferably in the area of sanctions compliance and real-time transaction monitoring.
Job description
We are seeking an experienced and team-oriented Sanctions Compliance Officer for our Global Sanctions Desk in the Compliance Department in Zurich. The role involves addressing challenges and performing tasks related to sanctions operations, particularly in connection with real-time sanctions transaction screening, including payments and securities.Tasks
- Manage real-time transactions with regard to sanctions risks using the bank’s electronic sanctions screening system as a Tier 2 member, and initiate background checks and escalations as necessary
- Providing guidance and conducting training for operations staff (as the first-line hit-handling team) and compliance officers at Group subsidiaries (as the third-line hit-handling team)
- Handling of third-party inquiries related to customer transactions
- Assistance with inquiries from third parties regarding (sanctioned) customers
- Assistance in evaluating and deciding on transfer and trading requests involving securities subject to sanctions, as well as in connection with Russian clients subject to cash deposit restrictions
- Implementation and development of processes and internal policies, and the conduct of tests and controls
Requirements
- Completed banking apprenticeship, preferably with additional relevant training or a degree in law, economics, or banking and finance
- 3–5 years of professional experience in the banking industry, preferably with experience in sanctions compliance and real-time transaction monitoring
- Interest in payment-related developments and their potential impact on day-to-day business operations, along with a solid understanding of processes, systems, and information technology
- Project management skills, including the ability to effectively plan, execute, and monitor projects within defined timeframes and objectives
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to deliver practical solutions and precise work
- A team player who is capable of independently handling challenging tasks in an efficient, reliable, and precise manner and delivering the required quality even under pressure
