A Sector Research Strategist at State Street Global Advisors is responsible for analyzing financial markets and producing research reports and thought leadership content on various sectors and asset classes. The Strategist supports sector ETF positioning and works closely with product development teams and clients.

About the role
The Sector Research Strategist position is part of the Sector ETF Research team and is based in Boston, MA. The Strategist will contribute and complement their expertise with their own proprietary research and investment strategies, sector outlooks, sector ETF competitive analysis, and working with product teams to analyze the sector from a fundamental and quantitative perspective.
Tasks
- Constantly monitor and analyze the financial markets and competitive industry landscape to provide research, thought leadership and sector perspectives for clients and projects.
- Utilize strong investment meetings to enhance the product positioning of State Street's family of sector ETFs, with a focus on understanding fundamental, quantitative and technical investment strategies - including derivative investment strategies.
- Utilize subject matter expertise and market perspectives to lead internal sector marketing campaigns, messaging and initiatives across various customer segment audiences.
- Generate investment thought leadership across a broad range of investment and sector themes, helping to educate clients and promote sector ETFs relative to other investment strategies and vehicles.
- Articulate deep investment processes and provide ongoing updates on sector product positioning opportunities and work with product development teams to assist with all range management opportunities.
- Some client-centered ways to promote their work and insights, including conferences where applicable.
Requirements
Required skills
- The ability to distill fundamental and quantitative investment concepts and have a comprehensive understanding of portfolio construction techniques including implementation strategies.
- A full understanding of the benefits of the ETF structure and how it works as a secondary market.
- Deep understanding of overall portfolio construction-investment theory, microeconomic policy and economic data analysis.
- Knowledge of fundamental and quantitative investment techniques and an understanding of the use of derivatives in and outside the context of ETFs.
- Strong writing and communication skills for frequent external and internal presentations.
Education and preferred qualifications
- At least 7-10 years of investment experience.
- CFA or CAIA and/or MBA required.
- Current securities license (Series 7 and Series 63) preferred or the ability to obtain one.
- Clean compliance and U4 file required.
- Knowledge of Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct.
- Knowledge of equity markets and portfolio construction.
- Critical understanding of financial theory and empirical research.
- Deep understanding of ETFs and competing investment vehicles.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Positive, cooperative attitude with strong team orientation.
- Availability for travel (10-15%).
