The Sector Research Strategist is responsible for analyzing sectors and producing research reports to support clients and projects and enhance State Street ETF product positioning. The candidate should have extensive knowledge of investment research, portfolio construction and ETFs.

About the role

The Sector Research Strategist provides investment research and competitive product positioning as part of the Sector ETF Research team. The role is based in Boston, MA. The Strategist will demonstrate expertise in our investment themes and complement this with own proprietary research to generate ideas, sector ETF competitive analysis and serve as a resource for analyzing sectors from a fundamental and quantitative perspective while working across a broader ETF research platform, market outlook, investment analysis and thought leadership.

Tasks

  • Continuously monitor and analyze the financial markets and competitive industry landscape to provide research, thought leadership and perspectives on sectors for clients and projects.
  • Utilize strong investment research capabilities to enhance the product positioning of State Street's family of sector ETFs, with deeper understanding of their fundamental, quantitative and technical investment strategies - including derivative investment approaches.
  • Utilize expertise and market insights to lead and contribute to sector ETF marketing campaigns, messaging and initiatives across various client segment audiences.
  • Generate investment thought leadership for a wide range of investors and sectoral themes, helping to educate our clients and promote sector ETFs against other investment strategies and vehicles.
  • Articulate deep investment processes and provide ongoing updates on sectoral product positioning opportunities and work with product development teams to assist with change management efforts.
  • Some client-centered ways to promote their work and insights, including conferences where applicable.

Requirements

  • The ability to discuss fundamental and quantitative investment concepts and a comprehensive understanding of portfolio construction techniques, including implementation strategies.
  • A full understanding of the benefits of the ETF structure and how it works in the secondary and primary markets.
  • Deep understanding of overall portfolio construction investment theory, macroeconomic factors and market dynamics with the ability to articulate these concepts accurately.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • The ability to distill complex information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Use of derivatives in the context of ETFs.
  • Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas internally and to external stakeholders.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships with our marketing, product and investment teams.

Education and preferred qualifications

  • At least 7-10 years of investment experience.
  • CFA or CMA and/or MBA required.
  • Current securities licenses (Series 7 and Series 63) preferred or the ability to obtain them.
  • Clean compliance and U4 records required.
  • Knowledge of Bloomberg, FactSet and Morningstar Direct.
  • Knowledge of equity markets and portfolio construction.
  • Critical understanding of financial theory and empirical research.
  • Deep understanding of ETFs and competing investment vehicles.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Ability to work with and influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Positive, cooperative attitude with strong team orientation.
  • Availability for travel (10-15%).
