Senior Analyst, Software Engineering (Application Support & Development)

Job Summary

Northern Trust is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to support and evolve a suite of business-critical applications across the payments and remittance sector. This role will involve in-depth application analysis, experience supporting core business processes, collaborating with business teams, and delivering new features and enhancements to support an expanded business model. The successful candidate will possess a well-rounded combination of technical and business knowledge to support software development throughout the software development life cycle (SDLC) and the use of new and existing SDLC technologies. This position requires strong technical skills, a customer-oriented approach, and the ability to independently coordinate efforts both internally and with external cross-functional stakeholders.

Technical Skills

• Hands-on Java and JavaScript (web) / JavaScript development for mission-critical business applications, ensuring timely execution and resolution of production issues
• A strong foundation in object-oriented principles and design patterns
• Experience with building and deploying microservices architectures
• Database skills include SQL, stored procedures, triggers, and advanced features such as indexing and optimization
• Working with RESTful APIs, gRPC, or similar technologies for integration with other services
• Proficiency in Linux-based environments for deploying and troubleshooting applications
• Familiarity with messaging protocols (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, etc.)
• Experience with source code control (Git or similar)
• Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Automated provisioning and management of infrastructure using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, Packer, or CloudFormation.
• Containerization & Orchestration: Proficiency in Docker, Kubernetes (or similar). Understanding of the container lifecycle and resource optimization.
• CI/CD automation: Familiarity with Jenkins, GitLab/GitHub Actions, or similar platforms.
• Cloud Proficiency: Strong working knowledge of AWS technologies (EC2, S3, ECS, RDS, Lambda, IAM).

• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and version control systems such as Git.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation (e.g., Bash, Python)
• Strong debugging skills and experience with log analysis tools.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Outstanding communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Exposure to financial services knowledge and processes.
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
• Knowledge of best practices in testing and automation.
• Personal experience working on projects as part of a distributed team.
