Senior Data Scientist - Responsible Investment

The role

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will be based in Man Group’s Responsible Investment (RI) function and will work on RI research on a daily basis. By collaborating with the RI team and the investment teams, you will deliver data-driven insights by quantifying, validating, mapping, and analyzing large structured and unstructured RI and sustainability datasets using robust statistical methodologies.

Tasks

- Partner with the RI team to identify data opportunities in the areas of RI scoring, climate risks, stewardship, and sustainable investing - Acquire, transform, and analyze large, complex structured and unstructured RI and sustainability datasets from proprietary and public sources - Develop company-wide RI metrics, conduct statistical tests, and produce research reports to maintain a research-driven approach to RI - Strengthen the internal knowledge base regarding RI and investment teams by creating tailored insights and scalable data products - Support and enhance Man Group’s proprietary AI tools and datasets to scale and improve data delivery within the organization - Build proof-of-concept data products and AI-driven tools for RI use cases by collaborating with the technology team to produce them - Stay up to date on industry trends in climate science and data science to develop business solutions that meet sustainability goals - Collaborate with other data scientists on team-wide OKRs, ranging from acquiring new datasets to creating innovative solutions

Requirements

- 5+ years of relevant experience in data wrangling, statistical techniques, and data visualization - Previous experience with AI, data, and sustainable financial datasets; climate analysis, environmental data, and weather; data quality analysis and related tools - Passionate and results-oriented, with a strong analytical mindset - Desire to deeply understand investment analytics and proactively drive data-driven solutions - Experience with Python data science tools such as Pandas, NumPy, SciPy, Matplotlib - Working knowledge of Snowflake, Linux/Unix, R, GitLab, Spark, Neo4j, MongoDB - Experience extracting data - Strengths and ability to work effectively with AI-powered development tools (e.g., Git, GitHub, Jupyter Notebooks) - Ability to present technical results and concepts to non-technical audiences, including RI stakeholders, investment managers, and data teams - Ability to work independently and collaboratively - Able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and investment philosophies - Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to data quality and analytical rigor

Nice to Have

- Experience working with investment professionals in a fast-paced environment - Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and standards (e.g., SFDR, TCFD, EU taxonomies)
