Overview

The position of Senior Financial Crime Compliance Manager - Africa Market Expert is an important part of our Financial Crime Compliance (FCC) team in the UK, with a focus on clients connected to African markets.

Key tasks

  • Conducting due diligence checks for new and existing clients, with a focus on connections to African markets.
  • Identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks in the area of financial crime to ensure that robust controls are in place.
  • Preparation of clear, comprehensive written analyses and risk assessments for senior management, auditors, and regulatory authorities.
  • Collaborate with customer relationship officers and senior management to resolve issues and achieve satisfactory outcomes.
  • Providing expertise and advice to improve the regulatory framework for financial crime compliance.
  • Supporting and promoting junior analysts to assist their professional development.
  • Participation in investigations in the area of financial crime and support for project work as required.
  • Advising first line of defense functions on issues related to KYC and financial crime risks.
  • Updating knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Supporting the Head of Financial Crime Advisory, the Deputy Money Laundering Officer, and the Money Laundering Officer as needed.

Requirements

  • At least seven years of experience in the field of financial crime, preferably in a private bank or similar financial institution.
  • Deep understanding of the legal and regulatory framework for KYC, AML, sanctions, tax evasion/avoidance, and terrorist financing.
  • Strong expertise in financial crime risks and typologies, particularly in the African region.
  • Proven ability to produce clear, accurate, and regulatory-compliant reports on customer risks.
  • Strong analytical skills and investigative mind, with the ability to synthesize information from various sources and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • A relevant qualification in the field of financial crime (e.g., ICA, ACAMS) is an advantage.
  • Language skills in the African region are an advantage.
