Senior Financial Risk Manager
Syngrum is seeking a Senior Financial Risk Manager in Zurich to further develop financial risk frameworks and independently monitor credit, liquidity, and market risks. The position requires at least ten years of experience in the regulated banking sector, as well as strong quantitative skills and knowledge of Swiss banking regulations.

About the role
- Contribute to and further develop Syngrum’s financial risk frameworks, policies, methodologies, and supporting tools, with particular responsibility for assigned financial risk areas.
- Provide independent oversight and scrutiny of financial risks, with a particular focus on credit and collateral risk, counterparty and financial risk analytics, while maintaining oversight of liquidity, market, and investment risks, including their interaction with operational, technology, and regulatory risks.
- Define and monitor risk appetite, limits, and key risk indicators, and escalate material exposures, breaches, and control weaknesses.
- Develop, conduct, and independently evaluate risk measurement, stress testing, scenario analysis, and portfolio analytics, translating the results into clear recommendations for senior management and governance bodies.
- Evaluate new products, technologies, counterparties, and business initiatives from a financial risk perspective, ensuring that risks and controls are understood before approval.
- Serve as a senior financial risk subject-matter expert on the Group Risk Committee and for cross-functional initiatives at the senior level. Serve as the senior risk representative at RALB, providing independent oversight and financial risk expertise on matters within the role's areas of responsibility. Advise and constructively challenge business functions, balancing commercial objectives with prudent risk management.
- Strong judgment, a commanding presence, and the confidence to challenge, influence, and communicate clearly with senior stakeholders and governance bodies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, combined with a pragmatic, commercially savvy, and collaborative approach.
- Strong AI literacy, including the effective use of approved tools and a critical understanding of risks related to data, models, confidentiality, third parties, and human oversight.
- Excellent written and spoken English; German is a plus.
Requirements
- A university degree in finance, economics, mathematics, quantitative finance, risk management, or a related field.
- At least ten years of relevant experience in banking or financial services, including substantial experience in financial risk management within a regulated institution.
- In-depth expertise in a wider range of financial risk areas, such as credit and collateral risk, counterparty risk, liquidity risk, investment risk, and quantitative financial risk, combined with a strong understanding of banking products, front-to-back processes, and the broader risk landscape.
- Proven experience in developing risk frameworks, risk appetite, limits, stress testing, and management reporting.
- Strong quantitative skills and experience applying financial risk analytics, stress testing, scenario analysis, and/or risk models.
- A solid understanding of Swiss banking regulations and experience interacting with regulators, internal auditors, or external auditors.
