Julius Baer is seeking a Senior Java Developer in Zurich for the development and operation of distributed financial systems, with a focus on Java 17, microservices, and Kubernetes. The position is advertised as a 12-month contract (80–100%) with an external payroll partner.
Job Description
- Senior Java Developer (Distributed Financial Systems) 80–100% (f/m/d)
- Contract with an external payroll provider, starting immediately for 12 months, with the possibility of extension

Tasks
- Application of microservices system principles (e.g., concurrency models, idempotence, circuit breakers, resilience patterns) to real-world financial systems
- Development and Maintenance of High-Performance Backend Services and APIs Using Java 17
- Identifying and Resolving Performance Bottlenecks Through Profiling, Benchmarking, and Optimization
- Integration of complex financial platforms and third-party systems to ensure seamless integration of core systems and operational resilience
- Designing Reliable Messaging and Integration Flows Using JPA, JDBC Templates, and JMS
- Code Quality and Best Practices: Writing Clean, Maintainable, and Efficient Code
- Implementation of industry-standard best practices, including code reviews, testing, and CI/CD
- Application of financial engineering principles (auditability, security, controlled changes)
- Collaboration: Working closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into technical specifications and deliverables
Profile
- Languages & Platforms: Java (Core Java, Collections, JSON, JDBC, Spring Framework)
- Architecture: Distributed systems, microservices, event-driven design, low-latency systems
- Databases & Messaging: JPA, JDBC, relational databases, JMS
- Operating Systems: Unix/Linux, Bash Scripting
- Security: OAuth2, API security, IAM concepts
- Strong code review practices and a commitment to code quality
- Experience with cloud platforms, preferably Microsoft Azure
- Knowledge of microservices architecture and containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
- Previous experience in the financial industry is a plus
- Willingness to collaborate as part of a global team with members in Zurich and Singapore
