Senior Java Developer – Market Pricing & Volatility Management 100% (f/m/d)

The Julius Baer Group is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer for its Market Pricing & Volatility Management team in Zurich. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and maintaining Java applications and will play a key role in designing and implementing new features and integration solutions.

Tasks

  • Overhauls, maintenance, and/or new releases of core services and applications in Java, with a focus on performance and reliability
  • Leading the design and implementation phase of new features and integrations to meet changing business requirements in the capital markets
  • Continuous improvement of existing software through refactoring, optimization, and modernization initiatives
  • Provision of third-line application support, troubleshooting of production problems, and rapid resolution of critical incidents
  • Participation in on-call rotations to support live systems outside of regular working hours
  • Collaborate with business partners, including traders, quants, and sales representatives, to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions
  • Support for user training and documentation efforts to ensure smooth adoption of new functionalities
  • Promotion of best practices in code standards, testing, CI/CD, and operational excellence

Requirements

  • Strong financial domain expertise: Deep understanding of financial products, particularly FX options and FX rates, as well as solid knowledge of banking systems, including core banking, trading platforms, market data, and pricing engines, and their interdependencies
  • Extensive technical development experience: 5+ years of hands-on software development experience in Java, including 2+ years with Java 11 or later; previous experience with C++, Visual C++, Qt, or related frameworks is advantageous
  • Proven track record in banking and trading applications: 5+ years of experience developing mission-critical systems in capital markets or front-office environments
  • Microservices and modern DevOps practices: Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps tooling such as Jenkins and Octopus; familiarity with scripting, deployment automation, certificate management, and operational resilience practices
  • Messaging and data technologies: Hands-on experience with messaging middleware such as IBM MQ or ActiveMQ; knowledge of data formats such as JSON, XML, and Apache Thrift; strong understanding of financial market data feeds and real-time processing
  • Full-cycle software engineering excellence: knowledge of Core Java; Spring Framework, JMS, JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, Oracle DB, and Maven; experience with test-driven development using JUnit and Mockito, with a strong focus on code quality and peer review processes.
