Senior Java Engineer - Order Management System

As a Senior Java Engineer, you will develop an end-to-end order management system for Man Group and work closely with trading desk teams. The role requires in-depth knowledge of Java, experience with distributed systems, and a strong understanding of financial markets.

Tasks

  • Help the Order Management Track understand the system implementation process and fulfill its role in the proper integration of new trading desks, as well as the further integration of sales and operations, in order to deliver an end-to-end order management system from start to finish.
  • You'll work as part of a small, close-knit team within the Markets Platforms Engineering group that operates across all strategies and execution channels.
  • Interact with many other parts of the company to gain a comprehensive understanding of the trading divisions.
  • Work across various investment areas and evaluate the portfolio to enhance its performance and ability to support GIS's future growth.
  • Manage contracts that are often created from scratch.
  • Focus on optimization, automation, and data for internal communication.
  • Continuously evaluate new tools and technologies.

Requirements

  • 0+ years of professional experience in software development using Java and another statically typed language.
  • Familiarity with OOP (object-oriented programming) and ML (machine learning).
  • Problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills combined with the ability to collaborate well both across cultures and across functions.
  • Excellent soft skills, a proactive attitude, and the ability to collaborate effectively with UK-based development teams as part of the initial office work.
  • Excellent understanding of financial markets and instruments.
  • Experience with ML (machine learning).
  • Expert in C++ and R.
  • Knowledge of Python.
  • A collection of best practices for software system design that are relevant to a hedge fund or an investment bank.
  • Experience in building distributed systems with service-based or event-driven architectures and parallel processing.
  • Experience in developing new databases (TrackField).
  • Advanced mathematical knowledge (e.g., infinite series, option pricing, finite market waves, extrapolation methods, algebraic structures).
  • Strong academic performance and a degree in mathematics and computer science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, physics, astrophysics, statistics, or economics.
  • Promoting the software development process, taking pride in technical excellence, and instilling these values.
  • A passion for technology and a personal drive to learn actively.
  • Demonstrates a professional and analytical approach to problem-solving.
  • Self-organized, with the ability to effectively manage time across multiple groups and amid competing business imperatives and priorities.
