Senior Lead - Technology Risk and Control - Emerging Technology Risk

The position of Senior Lead for Technology Risk and Control at Northern Trust requires more than 10 years of experience managing payments, credit, and technology teams, as well as expertise in AI systems and fraud prevention. The role involves strategically monitoring cybersecurity threats, developing risk frameworks for emerging technologies, and working closely with compliance and business teams.

Tasks

  • Development and overall management of a framework for key performance and risk indicators (KPIs/KRIs) for the use of automated investment solutions and AI.
  • Structured engagements to resolve issues related to applications, social engineering, fraud, data breaches, and network integrity, in order to support a secure, compliant, and ethical technology implementation.
  • A trusted partner and advisor to chief investment officers, helping to foster effective alignment between risk, investment strategies, and market conditions across complex financial portfolios.
  • Recommending strategies and risk mitigation measures, managing relationships with third-party providers, assisting with performance analysis, and contributing to strategic initiatives aimed at achieving organizational goals.
  • Lead strategic efforts to expand the high-frequency use of risk, fraud, and money laundering reporting tools for emerging technologies to detect, combat, and mitigate cybersecurity threats (including AI-enabled fraud, social engineering, data breaches, and insider threats).
  • Monitoring cybersecurity platforms (e.g., H3X, SentinelOne, CrowdStrike) for behavioral analysis and incident response.
  • Work closely with business teams, compliance, and control functions to proactively identify, mitigate, and manage financial, operational, and cyber risks.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and service providers to strengthen the effectiveness of the company’s risk mitigation strategies and compliance framework.
  • Lead or support reviews of the operational risk framework by promoting the strategic risk treatment lifecycle (identification, justification, and monitoring of risks; cost assessment; and escalation of risks that cannot be mitigated or resolved).
  • Support for strategic development initiatives in the areas of fintech transformation and operational efficiency.

Requirements

  • More than 10 years of professional experience leading teams in payments, credit, fraud, and/or technology, with a proven track record of expertise in payments and banking operations, AI, payments, credit, or technology-related products.
  • Experience with AI systems, fraud prevention, and complex digital application architectures in regulated environments within a global bank.
  • Professional certifications such as CISM, CISA, CERT, or equivalent are a plus.
