Job description

Tasks

  • Architecture and Design:
    • Develop and maintain a long-term architectural vision for the UNIX/Linux infrastructure and services
    • Creating detailed designs for UNIX/Linux systems and services
    • Ensure designs meet industry best practices, security standards and compliance requirements
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align the UNIX/Linux architecture with the overall IT strategy
  • Strategic planning:
    • Developing long-term roadmaps for the evolution of the UNIX/Linux infrastructure
    • Identifying emerging technologies and evaluating their potential impact on the company
    • Conduct quarterly skill/roadmap reviews to improve efficiency, scalability and cost savings
  • Roadmap development:
    • Creating and maintaining a multi-year roadmap for the evolution of the UNIX/Linux infrastructure and services
    • Identify emerging technologies that have a potential impact on the company's infrastructure
    • Planning hardware refresh cycles, software upgrades and migration projects
    • Alignment with short-term goals and budget restrictions
  • Standards and best practices:
    • Establish and enforce standards for UNIX/Linux system configuration, security and management
    • Develop and maintain best practices for system deployment, monitoring and maintenance
    • Creating and updating skill/roadmap documentation for all UNIX/Linux systems and processes
  • Security and compliance:
    • Designing and implementing robust security measures for UNIX/Linux systems
    • Develop and maintain security policies and procedures
  • Automation and DevOps:
    • Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all UNIX/Linux systems and processes
    • Creating and updating architecture specifications, standards and operating procedures
    • Establishing a knowledge base for troubleshooting and best practices
    • Other automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual tasks
    • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
    • Integrating UNIX/Linux systems with CICD pipelines and DevOps tools
  • Availability and resilience:
    • Designing and developing high-availability solutions for critical systems
    • Developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans and procedures
    • Carry out regular DR tests to ensure readiness
  • Monitoring and support:
    • Develop comprehensive monitoring solutions for UNIX/Linux systems and services
    • Establish proactive processes to ensure system health and stability
    • Provide expert-level support for complex UNIX/Linux issues
  • Vendor management:
    • Evaluate, install, configure and support UNIX/Linux hardware and software vendors
    • Managing manufacturer relationships
    • Stay informed about manufacturer roadmaps and upcoming product releases
  • Team management and mentoring:
    • Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior team members
    • Collaboration with other IT teams,
