Tasks
- Architecture and Design:
- Develop and maintain a long-term architectural vision for the UNIX/Linux infrastructure and services
- Creating detailed designs for UNIX/Linux systems and services
- Ensure designs meet industry best practices, security standards and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align the UNIX/Linux architecture with the overall IT strategy
- Strategic planning:
- Developing long-term roadmaps for the evolution of the UNIX/Linux infrastructure
- Identifying emerging technologies and evaluating their potential impact on the company
- Conduct quarterly skill/roadmap reviews to improve efficiency, scalability and cost savings
- Roadmap development:
- Creating and maintaining a multi-year roadmap for the evolution of the UNIX/Linux infrastructure and services
- Identify emerging technologies that have a potential impact on the company's infrastructure
- Planning hardware refresh cycles, software upgrades and migration projects
- Alignment with short-term goals and budget restrictions
- Standards and best practices:
- Establish and enforce standards for UNIX/Linux system configuration, security and management
- Develop and maintain best practices for system deployment, monitoring and maintenance
- Creating and updating skill/roadmap documentation for all UNIX/Linux systems and processes
- Security and compliance:
- Designing and implementing robust security measures for UNIX/Linux systems
- Develop and maintain security policies and procedures
- Automation and DevOps:
- Developing and maintaining comprehensive documentation for all UNIX/Linux systems and processes
- Creating and updating architecture specifications, standards and operating procedures
- Establishing a knowledge base for troubleshooting and best practices
- Other automation initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce manual tasks
- Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices
- Integrating UNIX/Linux systems with CICD pipelines and DevOps tools
- Availability and resilience:
- Designing and developing high-availability solutions for critical systems
- Developing and maintaining disaster recovery plans and procedures
- Carry out regular DR tests to ensure readiness
- Monitoring and support:
- Develop comprehensive monitoring solutions for UNIX/Linux systems and services
- Establish proactive processes to ensure system health and stability
- Provide expert-level support for complex UNIX/Linux issues
- Vendor management:
- Evaluate, install, configure and support UNIX/Linux hardware and software vendors
- Managing manufacturer relationships
- Stay informed about manufacturer roadmaps and upcoming product releases
- Team management and mentoring:
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring for junior team members
