Senior Middle Office Officer
The Senior Middle Office Officer is responsible for managing payment transactions, nostro accounts, and back-office tasks, and is expected to optimize processes and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The position requires at least 7 years of experience in a similar role and extensive knowledge of payment transactions and banking operations.
Job Description
The main tasks include:- Payment Processing and Control: Processing of SEPA credit transfers (SCT / SCT Inst) and international SWIFT payments (MT103, MT202, pacs.008)
- Verification of payment order compliance: IBAN, BIC, payee details, payee verification (VAP)
- Identification and management of suspended payments, rejections, and returns (R-transactions)
- Monitoring of urgent and high-value payments via SEPA or TARGET2 / T2
- Application of sanctions screening procedures (EU, OFAC lists) within the regulatory export period
- The incident as the primary point of escalation for complex operational problems within the team
- Promoting a culture of continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, and regulatory compliance within the team
- Responsibility for the middle-office payments function from start to finish, including the operating model, target service levels, and the multi-year roadmap
- Definition and Further Development of the Control and Escalation Framework
Nostro Account Management
The tasks include:- Daily monitoring of liquidity positions in nostro accounts with correspondent banks
- Reconciliation of Nostro statements with posted transactions (Reconciliation of MT940 / MT950)
- Identifying and resolving reconciliation errors within specified timeframes
- Management of outstanding items and escalation to correspondent banks in the event of discrepancies
- Optimization of the intraday balance in coordination with the Treasury
- Responsibility for the nostro reconciliation framework and the management of the escalation process with correspondent banks
Back office
The tasks include:- Greater involvement in other back-office tasks, such as settling securities transactions, corporate actions, or tax-related operations
- Participation in regulatory reporting related to payments (CESOP, CSDR, PSD2) and responsibility for the regulatory compliance of the payments function
- Identifying and implementing process improvements to increase STP rates, reduce manual intervention, and enhance operational resilience
- Maintenance and updating of operational procedures, controls, and escalation protocols
Requirements
The requirements include:- At least a bachelor's degree, ideally in banking, law, finance, or a related field
- At least 7 years of experience in a back-office or middle-office role, preferably with experience in cash and securities transactions
- Solid understanding of and experience with regulatory reporting, including CDDP, CESOP, Emme Refit, and other relevant regulations
- Background in back-office banking operations with experience in tax and regulatory matters
- Strong analytical skills to identify errors and discrepancies in regulatory reports
