Senior Model Validation Quantitative Analyst – CRO Model Risk Management 80-100% (f/m/d)

The Julius Baer Group is seeking a Senior Model Validation Quantitative Analyst for the Model Risk Management team in Madrid, who will be responsible for the independent technical validation of models and will lead a small team of junior analysts. The ideal candidate will have a university degree in a quantitative field and experience in the validation of financial and non-financial models.

Job description

The position of Senior Model Validation Quantitative Analyst is part of the Model Risk Management team within the Group Risk Management and Assurance unit (CRO). The responsibilities include:
  • Performing independent technical validations of non-financial models (e.g., compliance, machine learning/artificial intelligence)
  • Review the governance surrounding the model, its use, and documentation
  • Identification and assessment of model limitations and assessment of the overall risk of the model, including the assignment of a model risk rating
  • Preparation and delivery of high-quality model validation reports to demonstrate robust challenge and risk-oriented validation results

Tasks

The tasks include:
  • Leading a small team of junior model validation quantitative analysts in their daily model validation and model governance tasks
  • Monitoring and reviewing model risk mitigation activities and ensuring appropriate oversight of models throughout their lifecycle
  • Monitoring of model performance indicators along standardized risk metrics
  • Building strong relationships and interacting with model owners, developers, users, subject matter experts, and risk management functions both at headquarters in Zurich and at foreign locations

Requirements

The requirements for the position are:
  • Higher university degree in a quantitative field (mathematics, statistics, economics, physics, engineering, quantitative finance, data/computer science), master's or doctoral level, FRM or PRM is an advantage
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in the validation of financial (market, credit, liquidity risk, etc.) and/or non-financial models (compliance, information security) as well as openness to new and current areas
  • Results-oriented person with excellent interpersonal skills, written and oral communication skills, English skills, German skills are an additional advantage
  • Focus on stakeholders, can communicate effectively with business partners and explain complex issues to a wide audience, including senior management
