Senior Python Engineer- Data Platform

Man Group is looking for an experienced Senior Python Engineer to join its Data Platform Engineering team to work on the development and implementation of data products on the Codics platform. The role offers the opportunity to work on transformative projects and develop innovative solutions for handling big data.

Job description: Senior Python Engineer - Data Platform

Tasks

  • You will be part of the Data Platform Engineering team working on the development and implementation of the Codics platform, which is at the heart of our technology.
  • The platform consists of three main focal points:
    • Data Acquisition: Development of an ETL/ELT platform for research and production that scales to multi-terabyte data sets.
    • Data curation: Cataloging of thousands of data sets, organization, data quality and end-to-end data line.
    • Code Delivery: Provision of a self-service data platform for hundreds of data sets with a focus on scalability.
  • You will work on the development of data products and be actively involved in the wider data and technology community.
  • The focus of the work includes
    • Open source technologies
    • Python
    • Spark
    • AIR
    • Kubernetes

Requirements

Essential skills

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software development, ideally in Python.
  • Strong academic background and university degree with high mathematical and computational content (e.g. computer science, mathematics, statistics or finance).
  • Proven track record of successful collaboration in delivering complex technical solutions with excellent communication skills.
  • Experience in building reliable, production-ready applications.
  • In-depth knowledge of one or more relevant database technologies (e.g. Apache Kafka, PostgreSQL, Redshift etc.).
  • Strong interest in solving data-related challenges on a large scale.
  • Mastery of at least one programming language, especially Python, as well as knowledge of software development principles and clean coding practices.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects and with competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain close working relationships with quantitative researchers, vendors, and various software/data development teams.
  • A self-starter who looks for opportunities, communicates them effectively and delivers them.

Advantages

  • In-depth knowledge of data modeling, data lakes/data warehouses/mediation architecture.
  • Familiarity with one or more relevant databases or data formats (e.g. Apache Avro, PostgreSQL, Snowflake etc.).
  • Experience with large and unstructured data sets.
  • Experience with Apache Spark and its ecosystem, familiarity with batch and stream data processing systems.
  • Cloud expertise management skills with proven ability to work effectively across different teams and seniority levels.
  • Calibration capabilities.
  • Certification with one or more of the big data technologies.
  • Strong communication skills.
