Senior Quant Developer

The job posting describes a position as a Senior Quant Developer at Man Group in New York, in which the candidate will serve as a bridge between the Discretionary and Solutions Technology teams and develop Python data pipelines and analytics platforms for the Discretionary Investment teams. The Senior Quant Developer will work closely with portfolio managers, data engineers, and quants to develop next-generation fund analysis tools and reporting infrastructures.

The role

This is a senior engineering role that sits at the intersection of Man Group’s Discretionary (public markets) and Solutions Technology teams. You will serve as a bridge between the two business units.

Responsibilities

  • Development & Delivery (70%):
    • Creating, Extending, and Maintaining Python Data Pipelines with Pandas, NumPy, and Built-in Libraries
    • Selecting and prototyping analytical and risk research tools and data
    • Contribution to the creation of research databases using vector search and AI for investment teams
    • Designing data quality checks and processes
    • Building and maintaining FastAPIs and Flask backends, as well as REST/GraphQL frontends, using our shared component libraries
    • Providing Services for Kibana: Managing ELK/Graylogs for Scheduled Data Processing
    • Collaboration with engineers based in London and Sofia on cross-team initiatives
  • Stakeholder engagement (20%):
    • Serve as the primary technical point of contact for discretionary and solutions stakeholders based in New York
    • Other engineering teams: Translating business requirements into technical solutions and managing expectations
    • Collaboration with portfolio managers, analysts, and quants—understanding their workflows is just as important as writing code
  • Production Operations (10%):
    • Responsibility for ensuring the operational stability of systems in our portfolio—investigating data quality issues, triaging support requests, and managing incident response
    • Maintenance of documentation and operational processes

Key competencies

  • Essential:
    • 5+ years of professional software development experience with a strong background in trading
    • Strong Python skills: Well-tested, modular production code. Proficient with data classes, type hints, and OOP design patterns
    • Previous DevOps experience—particularly in portfolio management, risk management, or investment operations
    • Productivity/Profitability: Creating efficient data pipelines and transformations at scale
    • AILUM (Programming Skills): AILUM develops tools to integrate LIT-based teams that serve as consultants for AI-driven development, and we build AI/ML agents for our investment teams
