Senior Sanctions Advisory Officer

As a Senior Sanctions Advisory Officer at UBS in Zurich, you will serve as a trusted advisor on U.S. and international sanctions and make critical decisions in the areas of compliance and risk management. The position requires at least eight years of experience in sanctions matters, including five years with a U.S. government agency, as well as strong leadership skills and in-depth analytical abilities in a complex geopolitical environment.

Tasks

  • Advice on U.S. and international sanctions in the context of a complex geopolitical environment
  • Protecting the Financial System from Direct and Indirect Sanctions
  • Translating complex requirements from multiple regulatory frameworks into cases that require a deep understanding of sanctions and collaboration with Compliance and Operational Risk
  • Making or supporting critical decisions regarding various risks (e.g., sanctions, investment/asset classifications, and sanctions measures, etc.)
  • Building capabilities across UBS by developing, implementing, and monitoring sanctions control processes
  • Assume a credible leadership role as a trusted advisor and decision-maker for client and transaction inquiries, particularly from a U.S. perspective

Requirements

  • A university degree or equivalent qualification, ideally a master’s degree in law, economics, finance, banking, or international relations
  • More than 8 years of experience in the areas of sanctions, AML/CTF (anti-money laundering/counterterrorism financing), and regulation, including more than 5 years at a U.S. agency that oversees sanctions
  • Proven success in leading individuals, projects, or groups and in working within a matrix structure or corporate organization
  • Extensive experience in interpreting laws and regulations
  • Strong Institutional Involvement in Case Management
  • Proven experience in leading the assessment and monitoring of complex sanctions cases and enforcement actions
  • Experience working with regulatory authorities
  • Excellent analytical, technical, strategic, and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Organizational and Problem-Solving Skills
