Senior SQL Server DBA

Man Group is looking for a Senior SQL Server DBA/Engineer who will be responsible for managing the SQL Server database estate and collaborating with other teams. The role offers opportunities for career development and exposure to DevOps methodologies and open source tools.

Job description: Senior SQL Server DBA

Tasks

  • Administering and managing the SQL Server Database Estate
  • Collaboration with colleagues in the technology teams to find the best solutions for Man Group
  • Ensuring the stability of the technology stack in this area
  • Rollout of standards-based solutions using relevant configuration management tools
  • Capacity planning of private and virtual infrastructure to minimize the duration and impact of outages
  • Ensuring high infrastructure availability and minimizing the duration and impact of outages
  • Maintaining a high level of service for incidents, requests and changes
  • Provide database support and consulting to all internal technology teams as well as external customers and end users
  • Maintenance of database security standards across the SQL Server database estate
  • Participation in an on-call support rota

Requirements

Required experience

  • Willingness and ability to be innovative
  • Good communication skills with end users and IT staff
  • Experience with Oracle technology (SQL Server 2012) until 2019/2022
  • Advanced scripting skills in Python, PowerShell and/or SQL
  • Experience in setting up and managing always-on availability groups and/or clustering
  • Experience with setting up and managing Microsoft SQL Server replication, GoldenGate and/or Oracle Streams and DataBase mirroring
  • Experience and ability to demonstrate performance and diagnostic and tuning techniques across SQL database, storage and network environments
  • Ability to automate builds and reporting tasks
  • Flexibility to expand and develop skills in any area

Desired experience

  • At least 5 years of experience in SQL Server database administration and engineering
  • Exposure to alternative database technologies, including open source RDBMS (e.g. PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Experience with white cloud offerings and installations (e.g. Azure or AWS)
  • Development and implementation of automation scripts/monitoring and analytics
  • Desire to learn more about the business environment in which you work
