Senior Systems Engineer

Man Group is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to build and maintain the infrastructure for the Investment Technology department in support of its global trading and research operations. The Senior Systems Engineer will be responsible for developing and maintaining monitoring systems to ensure the reliability and scalability of services.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. As a Senior Systems Engineer, you will play a crucial role in developing and maintaining the infrastructure that enables our Investment Technology team to implement innovative technologies at scale and support our global trading and research operations.

Tasks

* Developing and maintaining large-scale infrastructure automation platforms that support tens of thousands of cores and hundreds of terabytes of storage for our Python-based quantitative research and trading platform * Developing infrastructure-as-code and configuration management solutions using tools such as Terraform and Ansible to provision and manage our on-premises resources * Fostering a culture of ownership across multiple environments * Developing self-service systems that support hundreds of users within Man Group * Collaborating with third-party systems to support production workloads across multiple environments * Collaborating with business partners in a dynamic environment where infrastructure directly impacts business outcomes

Requirements

Essential:
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with configuration management and Infrastructure-as-Code tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet, or Salt
  • Proven experience in deploying, managing, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters in production environments
  • Strong understanding of monitoring and observability best practices, including experience with tools such as Prometheus, the ELK Stack, open-source solutions, or similar
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently on a highly complex and innovative platform
  • Experience with Linux/Unix systems; ideally Red Hat or similar
  • Understanding of DevOps principles and experience with tools such as Jenkins or GitLab Actions
  • Strong problem-solving skills; knowledge of security and experience with infrastructure patterns
  • Ability to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
  • Ability to perform ongoing tasks and work effectively with AI-related development tools as part of the daily workflow
Advantageous:
  • Experience with container technologies beyond Kubernetes (Docker, containers, etc.)
  • Knowledge of thousands of microservices and how to secure them (e.g., OIDC/SSO, API gateway)
  • Experience with security and source code management practices using HashiCorp Vault
  • Understanding storage systems and how they integrate into modern system architectures
  • Experience in the financial services industry or other highly regulated industries
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to set priorities and effectively manage time across multiple projects
  • Experience in communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a variety of audiences
  • Contributions to open source projects or active participation in technical communities is a plus
