Software Engineer

The role

This role is an engineering position within the Man Direct Lending technology team in New York, where you will work side by side with investment professionals and collaborate with the broader Discretionary Technology Investment team in London.

Tasks

You will help build and maintain production systems across the entire stack—data pipelines, analytics platforms, web tools, and AI-powered automation—while developing a deep understanding of the investment business.

Essential Skills

- Experience with some of the advanced software development techniques used at Man Group, including:

• Microservices architecture, event-driven architecture, and message queues
• Continuous Integration, Code Review, Unit Testing, Refactoring, and Related Approaches
• Strong knowledge of Python
• Familiarity with one or more scripting languages
• Experience with data analysis techniques and relevant tools such as NumPy, SciPy, and Pandas
• Experience with large-scale data mining and visualization techniques for presenting large and complex datasets and relationships
• Experience building or integrating AI/LLM-based tools—we are active early adopters of AI-powered development and expect developers to keep up with these tools

Useful Skills

- Experience in private lending or direct lending - A strong interest in and understanding of financial markets and instruments - Knowledge of mathematical techniques such as statistics and stochastic algorithms - Familiarity with LLM agent frameworks, vector search architectures, or RAG pipelines - Experience with waterfall or continuous approaches
