Senior Lead, IT Risk and Controls – KRI Development, Metrics & Automation
As a Senior Lead for IT Risk and Controls at Northern Trust, you will develop and automate Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), metrics, and dashboards to monitor technology risks. Responsibilities
- Risk and Controls Development: Lead the design, refinement, and implementation of IT risk indicators (KRIs) that provide insights across (supplemental key controls and risks). This work should be comprehensive and straightforward, and should align with continuous improvement, risk and control assessments, and automation initiatives to define KRI development, thresholds, escalation points, and reporting standards.
- Metrics, analytics, and executive reporting: Develop and maintain key metrics, dashboards, and recurring reports as needed to manage our wealth management clients, which may include security, data privacy, issue management, and remediation effectiveness. Translate complex data into clear insights for senior and executive decision-makers, and provide remediation recommendations.
- Process automation and improvements: Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting, data aggregation, the KRI creation workflow, and control monitoring across key systems through KRI development or automation using SQL, Python, ShareView, or an automation platform that streamlines automated solutions to generate reports that are simple, scalable, insightful, and increasingly effective.
- Data governance and quality: Establish clear reporting workflows, data processes, documentation, and quality testing to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of the data, and that the data used in controls and metrics works with the supporting tools and our systems. Collaborate with each partner to address data-related root cause risks for Key Risk Indicators (KRIs), development, data integrity, and automated alerts. Work closely with business units, information security or controls departments, and governance groups to prioritize, measure, improve, and manage risk.
- Facilitate assessment and testing cycles: Serve in a senior management support role for KRI testing, refinement, implementation, and audits with internal teams and stakeholders. Facilitate discussions with cross-functional teams, drive change, and support governance boards to improve the control and risk landscape.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in technology risk, data analytics, metrics development, automation, data analysis, or a similar field, with a proven ability to serve as a subject-matter expert (SME).
- Experience designing, implementing, and monitoring KRIs, KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards for reporting on technology risk, controls, issue management, or performance.
- Familiarity with data sources and reporting tools commonly used in the banking, insurance, or financial services sectors (e.g., RSA, Power BI, Tableau, NICE Actimize, SQL, Python, ShareView, or similar platforms) is strongly preferred.
- Preferably, include familiarity with control frameworks such as NIST, COBIT, IIA, ISO 27001, etc.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to identify trends, synthesize information, and make connections.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders, explain complex concepts, and present data-driven narratives clearly and concisely.
- Adaptability and personal effectiveness in managing multiple priorities independently and driving continuous improvement across risk and automation processes.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $116,978 - 152,840 USD
