Staff Engineer
Max Neun is looking for a Staff/Principal Engineer who, as a Senior Individual Contributor, will take on technical leadership responsibilities for the architecture of critical systems and the scaling of cloud infrastructure. The role requires in-depth expertise in Python, distributed systems, and cloud technologies (AWS/GCP), as well as the ability to make technical decisions across team boundaries.
Tasks
- Technical leadership within the technology organization; work on current products, including services to meet customer identification requirements, as well as new talent management enablement and analytics.
- A Senior Individual Contributor role for an engineer who can both deliver technical solutions and make practical decisions about how architecture can be used to develop our business processes.
- Work with large, diverse teams and report to a Principal Engineer within the engineering leadership team who oversees the entire Max Neun tech team.
- Significant responsibility for both business and engineering decisions.
- Responsibility for architectural decisions regarding critical systems, including build-or-buy decisions and new team design decisions that align with business needs and the vision.
- A significant technical investment that enables us to deliver, report, develop, and ultimately scale up in the coming years.
- Design and development of available technical systems and structured architectural solutions, including leading our adoption of cloud-native architecture and managing the operational capabilities of our own team.
- Developing and managing high-volume datasets and pipelines for clients (Row Financial Solutions). Collaborating across and with multiple internal teams to drive quality improvements.
- Serves as a technical leadership focal point and coach for all engineers, provides mentoring, and oversees the implementation of technical interviews and the hiring process.
- Training employees to ensure a consistent approach to various technical decisions.
- Use of systems and processes such as post-mortems, cross-team communication, and prioritization techniques to iteratively improve the technical integrity and delivery of the systems.
- Sharing core business technology initiatives from development through delivery, including proof of concept, prototypes, and sample-based systems.
- Participation in various decision-making processes, such as advising executive management and entrepreneurs on new offerings.
- Understanding and improving the adoption of established practices and scaling by leveraging previously built systems; helping to define how the organization needs to scale its technology.
technology
- Max Neun is a system of line-of-business microservices based on the primary development language and utilizing state-of-the-art, cloud-based tools.
- Each microservice is versioned individually and is responsible for a single, independent request or operation.
- The technology used is not currently the most important factor; data management and data modeling are the key factors.
- This technology offers the advantage of enabling changes or upgrades to features and pricing tiers, which fosters team agility by minimizing dependencies on others and significantly reducing complexity.
- For performance benchmarks, each microservice operates independently; the environment is structured to ensure fast and repeatable initial boot, reduce overhead, and provide consistency.
- Teams are free to define any appropriate structure and pattern for each microservice.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in commercial software development, with in-depth expertise in Python or an object-oriented language and a proven ability to apply and solve Pub/Sub storage patterns.
- Proven experience in making architectural and technical decisions for teams of senior engineers, beyond the scope of their individual teams.
- Experience in delivering and operating critical business-critical services and advanced cloud infrastructure (preferably on EC2 and GCP or AWS), with hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services, Azure, or GCP—preferably 10+ years.
