Staff Engineer

Tasks

As a Staff Engineer, you will work across teams to improve our systems and optimize collaboration. Your responsibilities will include:

• Design and build scalable systems, including backend development, architectural decisions, and coding, to prepare our platform for the next stage of growth.
• Promoting the adoption of AI-assisted development, including working with teams to establish practical workflows, measure impact, and expand the capabilities of these tools.
• Lead technical excellence initiatives with teams, including identifying opportunities to improve our build process and collaborating with engineers and tech leads to implement better standards and patterns
• Improving our operational processes, including strengthening observability, testability, and resilience in our systems, as well as participating in incident response and conducting root cause analysis that leads to real solutions
• Supporting engineers in your area, including mentoring in system design, performance, and security practices, as well as collaborating with people, code review, and assisting tech leads in developing their teams

Requirements

Our ideal candidate has:

• Strong experience in designing backend systems in Java or Node.js (we use Quarkus and NestJS; experience with one of these frameworks is a plus, but not required)
• A solid understanding of system performance, observability, and secure software development
• Experience in building reliable, fault-tolerant systems
• Comfort working across team boundaries and influencing technical decisions through collaboration rather than authority
• A desire to mentor others and openly share knowledge

Nice to have

It would be great if you have experience in the following areas:

• Regulated environments
• Familiarity with domain-driven design, clean architecture, test-driven development, or event-driven architecture
