Staff Java Engineer - Execution

As a Staff Java Engineer at Man Group, you will develop tools, platforms and algorithms that drive the company's investment engines. You will work on Java applications for high frequency and high contact trades, trading performance monitoring and analysis, and trade cycle optimization.

Tasks

  • Develop tools, platforms and algorithms to support Man's investment engines and drive business strategy
  • Work on market data feeds, pricing and valuation models, order routing and market data distribution
  • Development of Java applications for buying and selling sides for high frequency and high touch trades, skills monitoring, post trade performance analysis and trade cycle optimization software

Requirements

Required skills

  • Expertise in Java
  • Knowledge of the FIX protocol
  • Very good communication skills and the ability to work closely with technical and non-technical disciplines
  • Strong background in software engineering with good methodologies and best practices
  • Tendency to test, preferably with a framework
  • Experience with Linux and Windows platforms

Advantageous skills

  • Excellent understanding of financial markets and instruments
  • Experience in the front office, e.g. in retail
  • Experience in working with quants and/or traders
  • Python knowledge
  • Experience with front office software and/or trading systems, e.g. in a hedge fund or investment bank
  • Expertise in the development of distributed systems with service-based or event-driven architectures and parallel processing
  • Experience with web-based development (TypeScript/React)
  • Relevant mathematical knowledge, e.g. stochastic processes, derivative pricing, time series analysis optimization algorithms

Personal characteristics

  • Strong academic background and a degree with high mathematical and computational content, e.g. computer science, mathematics, engineering or physics from a leading university
  • Curiosity: The approach to software development is just as important as writing great code
  • Creativity

  • Intellectually robust with an analytical approach to problem solving
  • Self-organized with the ability to manage time effectively across multiple projects and with competing business needs and priorities
