Stewardship Analyst

As a Stewardship Analyst at Man Group, you will support the implementation of stewardship approaches, including proxy voting and engagement, across the company's various investment capabilities. You will be responsible for analyzing company data with regard to ESG standards and communicating with company representatives on ESG issues.

Job description: Stewardship Analyst

Tasks

  • Proxy voting:
    • Coordinating daily relations with our proxy voting research provider
    • Pursuing consistent and informed proxy voting activities to ensure the timeliness and completeness of research and analysis
    • Supporting the stewardship team in conducting additional analysis of third-party voting research and recommendations at the request of clients
    • Responding to questions from portfolio managers, strategists, teams, or proxies regarding voting; executing proxy voting and engaging with stakeholders
    • Preparation and production of detailed voting reports for various stakeholders
    • Ensuring that our voting is consistent with our proxy advice and engaging with our proxy voting provider to resolve conflicts
    • Monitoring best practices in voting
    • Monitoring of stock account setups through Man's control framework to mitigate proxy voting risks and deficiencies
  • Commitment:
    • Collaborating with portfolio managers and other investors to achieve tangible results in the companies in which investments have been made
    • Writing company disclosures, third-party research, and other available resources to conduct a non-financial analysis to assess companies' compliance with ESG market standards across various industries
    • Identifying focus areas for targeted engagement with investee companies to achieve ESG/responsible investment objectives
    • Engagement with company representatives from Man or third-party portfolio companies to discuss ESG issues, including climate change, biodiversity, human rights, and corporate governance
  • Reporting and policy updates:
    • Responding to questions about engagement and proxy voting in connection with client due diligence questionnaires (DDQ) or requests for information (RFI)
    • Maintaining stewardship-related policies and contributing to international stewardship code requirements

Requirements

  • A degree in finance, economics, business administration, law, or a similar subject; or CFA or an equivalent relevant qualification/certification
  • Professional qualifications in finance or ESG, such as CFA, CIMA, or CFA Level I; or experience in ESG investing or another relevant qualification/certification
  • Knowledge of proxy issues relating to corporate governance, stewardship, and shareholder rights and responsibilities, preferably through work or personal interests/holdings/share ownership
  • Strong IT skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • A motivated self-starter, structured, systematic, and proactive
  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently, flexibly and adding value to the team
  • Strong presentation and writing skills
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Information seeker with a penchant for problem solving and holistic thinking
