Technical Lead – Backend Java Engineer, Full-Time (f/m/d)

Job description

• Technical leadership combined with hands-on development of a large-scale, highly available financial platform for retail customers worldwide.

Tasks

• Leading the design, development, and operation of Java 21 / Jakarta EE backend applications that support our wealth management platform.
• Designing scalable, maintainable, and reliable software solutions that are aligned with business and architectural requirements.
• Overseeing technical decisions regarding REST APIs, integration mechanisms, messaging, performance, and application design.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Responsibility for and coordination of application approvals, deployments, environment readiness, and production rollouts.
• Mentoring and supporting engineers through technical guidance, code reviews, knowledge sharing, and fostering a strong engineering culture.
• Promotion of engineering best practices, coding standards, architecture governance, and continuous improvement.
• Leading the development of integrations using REST, SOAP, JMS, and messaging systems.
• Closer collaboration with Oracle databases, including data modeling, performance optimization, and schema evolution.
• Supporting front-end teams where back-end integration expertise is required.
• Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and operations teams to ensure smooth operations and production stability.

Requirements

• Expert knowledge in Java development with extensive hands-on experience in Java 21, Jakarta EE, and JPA/Hibernate.
• Maven multi-module applications.
• In-depth knowledge of software architecture, design patterns, and the principles of enterprise application design.
• Experience in developing and using REST and SOAP services using technologies such as JAX-RS and JAX-WS.
• Extensive experience with Oracle databases, SQL optimization, schema design, and optimization of the data persistence layer.
• Experience with messaging and integration technologies, including JMS and enterprise messaging systems.
• Strong knowledge of testing practices using JUnit, Mockito, and integration testing frameworks.
• Experience in release management, deployment processes, and production support strategies.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, make architectural decisions, and communicate effectively with technical stakeholders.
• Proven experience in coaching, mentoring, and developing a team of Java developers.
• Fluency in English and Spanish.
• Focus on improving business results through an "engineering-first" approach: continuous improvement, code review practices, observability, and technical debt management.

Desirable Skills

• Familiarity with Spring, OpenTelemetry, and observability best practices.
• Experience working with Docker-based local development environments.
• Exposure to Kotlin and automated integration testing frameworks.
• Experience in driving technical improvements, platform modernization, and the enhancement of engineering processes.
• Experience working in agile environments with distributed and cross-functional teams.
