Technical Manager, Data Products & Analytics Delivery

As a Technical Manager at Northern Trust in London, you will lead the development and delivery of data products and analytics solutions on the Azure platform. The position requires at least 10–15 years of professional experience, including 5 years leading technical teams, as well as in-depth knowledge of Azure Data Services, data engineering, and modern data practices.

Requirements

Education and Certification

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Microsoft 365 Fundamentals, Azure Data Fundamentals, and Azure Data Engineer certifications.
  • Relevant certifications in technology and other relevant professional training certifications.

Qualifications

  • A successful candidate for the position of Technical Manager will have at least 10–15 years of industry experience, including a minimum of 5 years spent leading or managing technology teams, planning, and project delivery.
  • Specific experience and competencies demonstrated in the following areas:
    • Strong knowledge of modern data practices and products—such as Azure Data Lake and Azure Synapse Analytics
    • Strong theoretical knowledge of relationships between structured and unstructured data, modeling, architectures, and business rules
    • Knowledge of data and business rules governing the data lifecycle
    • Ability to communicate with business stakeholders to understand data issues and explore possible solutions

Experience

  • 5 years of experience in delivering data solutions and data projects.
  • 5 years of experience leading and managing technical teams, including providing coaching and guidance.
  • 5 years of experience in data warehousing, data lake architectures, and data engineering.
  • 5 years of experience with Agile methodologies and processes.
  • 5 years of experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, and Azure Data Factory.
  • 5 years of experience in data quality and governance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience working on a software engineering team using Scrum or similar methodologies.
  • Relevant experience with Snowflake.
  • Professional certification in Azure, AWS, or other cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI and Azure Data Studio.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evolution of Northern Trust Cloud Data Lake components, such as metadata, data governance, data security, data quality, lineage, and the data catalog
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and evolution of the Azure Data Platform for analytics capabilities
  • Implement and oversee operations on Azure using Cloud Data Factory and other Azure Data services
  • Build and oversee data pipelines in Microsoft Fabric that connect to the data lake, dbt, Snowflake, and various data sources
  • Design and oversee the architecture—including a data lake, DBT, and One Lake—that enables analysts to access enterprise data
  • Build and oversee data pipelines for data storage in Microsoft Fabric for business reporting and self-service analytics
  • Partner with analysts and end users from a specific domain to develop and implement end-to-end analytics performance improvements
  • Consume large-scale enterprise data, relational data, unstructured data, and external data, optimizing data pipelines
  • Transforming unstructured, tabular data and operational data into structured formats
  • Strengthen existing relationships with business teams across various technology areas where data engineering is essential to provide support
  • Implementing a modern data warehouse, security, and self-service reporting using Azure Purview and ADF
