Valuation Controller 100% (f/m/d)

The Julius Baer Group is seeking a Valuation Controller (full-time position) who will be responsible for monitoring and controlling the valuation of financial instruments and who has experience in valuation control as well as strong analytical skills. The ideal candidate should have experience with valuation models, regulatory requirements, and programming languages such as Python.

Job description

The Valuation Control department is part of Product Control and focuses on trading and treasury activities. Independent compilation of profit and loss figures enables a transparent and secure business environment with accurate financial reporting. Front-to-back reconciliations of positions, cash accounts, and income statements ensure data integrity across systems.

Tasks

The role of the Valuation Controller includes:
  • Support the Head of Valuation Control in the day-to-day implementation and continuous improvement of the bank's valuation control framework
  • Management of key workflows for valuation control and Prudent Valuation adjustments, including analysis, reporting, documentation, and resolution of valuation issues
  • Conducting and supporting independent price verifications, valuation adjustment reviews, fair value checks, and valuation uncertainty assessments
  • Analysis of valuation differences, price test results, model or input constraints, data quality concerns, and key drivers of valuation adjustments
  • Collaborate with Product Control, Front Office, Market Risk, Model Risk, Finance, Regulatory Reporting, and Technology to ensure robust valuation governance
  • Preparation and presentation of materials for management meetings, evaluation committees, audits, and regulatory discussions
  • Support in the development and maintenance of method documentation, control design, operating procedures, and governance standards
  • Contribution to process improvement initiatives, automation efforts, and control enhancements in the area of valuation control
  • Use of Python, Dataku, or similar tools to enhance data analysis, streamline reporting, and improve audit efficiency
  • Serves as a subject matter expert and point of escalation for valuation reviews, Prudent Valuation adjustments, and valuation

Requirements

The ideal candidate should be an experienced valuation control expert with strong technical knowledge of financial instruments, valuation methods, and regulatory requirements. He or she should be proactive, analytical, and able to scrutinize valuations, drive improvements, and support governance. Proficiency in Python, Dataku, or similar tools is highly desirable.
  • Able to review and question valuation models, pricing inputs, assumptions, variances, and audit findings
  • Strong analytical skills, with proficiency in interpreting financial data, identifying problems, and clearly communicating results
  • Experience in preparing reports and presentations for senior management, evaluation committees, audits, and regulatory agencies
  • Proficiency in Python, Dataku, SQL, Tableau, or similar tools for data analysis and visualization—highly valuable
  • Able to contribute to process optimization and automation initiatives in a controlled environment
  • Effective communication with strong stakeholder management skills across risk, finance, front office, technology, and control functions
  • Meticulous attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, and the ability to deliver under pressure from audits, regulators, and senior management
