Job Description
To provide execution and order placement services to Man’s investment engines.Responsibilities
- Regulatory and legal framework: Be aware of and act in accordance with the regulatory and legal framework governing the trader’s activities, including but not limited to market abuse rules. Ensure you are up to date and able to review market risk limits and thresholds and prudential limits.
- Processes and Procedures: Know, understand and comply with Man’s Global Compliance policies and any internal procedures relevant to the trader’s business activities and with the requirements set out in Man’s Staff Handbook and Global Code of Ethics as well as any local code of conduct. Maintain accurate records so that if transactions are queried, the PMs recorded instructions have been recorded on the trade; if the trade is not in accordance to the agreed trade instructions it must be escalated to the appointed line manager.
- Report regulatory concerns to Compliance and to the appointed line manager if you are aware of market activity of a suspicious nature as well as known or suspected breaches of regulation, exchange rules or firm policy.
Best Execution
- Continues to improve processes to ensure Man meets its Best Execution obligations for Man’s clients.
- Manage and continually review decision tools.
- Without framework for continuous evaluation and improvement of the execution process to minimise slippage and adverse trading costs.
- Application of quantitative methods combined with trading experience to decide and discuss with the PM the optimal trading strategy to best match the PM’s trading and investment objectives.
Lean Technology, Trading
- Provide trading technology to improve execution tools.
- Enhance technology to help automate workflow.
- Drive development of our trading platform, infrastructure and technology.
- Use applications and quantitative analysis to measure performance of our systematic and discretionary strategies.
Broker Relationships Evaluation/Review
- Oversight of broker roster and ensuring proper allocation of flow keeping in mind metrics of broker performance, coverage models, execution research and operational efficiency.
- Feedback to brokers on areas of improvement, ranking etc.
- Price risk, valuation, negotiation, and onboarding new relationships.
- Liaison with operations teams to ensure no discretion or lack of best execution between process bottlenecks leading to missed opportunities on the execution front in the pursuit of best execution.
Operational & Organisational Considerations
- Ability to reassess/cut an order ‘late’, based on the PM’s recorded instructions, if required (this should not be extended to market close).
- Continues to be able to see P&Ls holdings.
- Actual Hands on experience of market making of trades.
- Liaison with stock house desk.
Key Skills & Experience
- 1-3 years of experience trading in a financial institution or relevant technical experience.
- Advanced skill level – programming language such as Python, SQS.
- Developing and understanding of Market Microstructure.
- Hands-on attitude; willing to get involved with technology and projects across the firm.
- Strong academic record and a degree from a leading university.
- Attention to detail and disciplined: Able to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to thrive.
- Intellectually robust with a keenly analytic approach to problem solving; Curious, entrepreneurial, and innovative, willing to get involved with technology and projects across the firm.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and access investment management teams and regions; Client, tech., and front office communicator.
- Team player; collaborative, customer-focused and results-driven.
- Strong proficiency in Mandarin both written and verbal.
- Willingness to travel and work from our Shanghai office.
