About the position

• Northern Trust is seeking a Data Center Site Operations Manager in its U.S. Data Center Management operations supporting financial-infrastructures across four enterprise data center environments.
• This role is responsible for governance oversight, end-to-end management of operations, the people, plan, facilities, coordination, change governance, audit readiness, vendor management, and continuous improvement and compliance in data asset delivery.
• The successful candidate will bring a highly connected, proven onshore operational leadership team with operational stability, responsiveness and agility to ensure global enterprise data center operations resiliency.
• The candidate will be assigned to support Northern Trust’s current data center operations while helping deliver operating practices, staffing models, documentation, and support current data asset operations roles including applications services, software support, infrastructure, and support processes as Northern Trust’s data center hardware facilities, networks, and data distributed environments go from an evolving legacy to a more established model.
• The role requires leadership for traditional enterprise data center operations, distributed environments, and cyber-security operations roles as they overlap.

Principal Responsibilities

Data Center Operations and Facility Management

• Lead title for site operational readiness across assigned enterprise data center facilities, ensuring a viable operation of financial-infrastructures supporting services.
• Provide leadership for site governance, oversight of operational responsibilities, staffing models, coordination, hardware lifecycle, and sub-task data center support activities.
• Support enterprise infrastructure and support programs involving service consoles, compute, storage, networking, hybrid cloud, multi-cloud, and other operational edge services.
• Monitor physical inventory levels and operational data storage using CDC and BMC tools; create ad hoc, but systematic platforms, twin mirroring events, and hardware/service environments.
• Reinforce disciplined project-planning standards across the data center environment, including cost-management, facility, technical-readiness, and compliance tracking.
• Support operations departments for ‘first call’ data center operations, site operations, troubleshooting, or infrastructure liaison as the Technology Support center.
• Train new hires and business functions, as necessary.
• Lead and drive the data’s Data Center Management firm, including site-level hardstand staff, project support resources, contractors, users, and other day-to-day operations.
• Be a catalyst for active initiatives that can support growth and future state facets of data center operations, via evaluation, or cross-hatch coordination.
• Ability to identify data center capacity that can support ongoing enterprise future state requirements supporting infrastructure hosting environments.

Change Technologies, Assets, and/or Facility

• One who continuously improves the data center workload/case model roles IT service management and storage program delivery.
• Drive workshops, changes, event-plans and gap improvement activities mid-term.
• Recommendations, staff, and vendor acquisition assessments based on operations budgets.
• Develop physical or virtual network development plans that include operational continuity.
• Create documentation for sensitive third-party activities that leveraged new regions, migration, standards and pre-bid strategy reviews.
• Coordinate with partner location site-roles and support groups to track and deliver results in hybrid, distributed, specifically cloud compute sites evaluated, and projects in operations.
• Variable tracks involved with new site operational roles, expansion roles, tech readiness changes.

Audit Readiness, and Documentation Oversight

• Maintain an auditor-ready operating overview across data services presence, service templates, and time-bound compliance.
• Oversee vendor availability commitment documentation with SLAs, response readiness, contacts, proactive alerts/conditions, and task prioritization follow-up.
• Ensure Enterprise Data Center Management documentation covers staff, contract items, continuity, and vendor assignments.
• Support audit trends, service requests, audit reviews, documentation readiness, and update validation activities for the data center operation.
• Promote a culture of operational discipline, operational oversight, and process consistency relative to the term.

Facility Management & Controls Oversight

• Support forecast of administrative activities required to sustain the data center platform, including space/bay occupancy, and power metrics budget plans.
• Comply with internal automated procurement, safety, and vendor sit-equip-roles manuals, and service roles with operational demand of project-level operations teams.
