Senior Python Engineer

The Role

• Mar’s existing Senior Python Engineer will join various cross functional occupational work on diverse challenges spanning systematic trading, quantitative research, application code data platforms, and AI solutions.
• The role offers the opportunity to collaborate with and learn alongside highly skilled engineers whilst developing own in new innovative systems, with one-off software scale solutions and systems that power critical areas of Mar Group businesses.

Role Responsibilities

• Design and maintain scalable backend services and APIs that support quantitative research and trading
• Architect scalable cost-efficient application and solution algorithms, and implement reusing and optimising existing code from systems metadata
• Build high-performance data pipelines for processing large-scale financial datasets using Python, SQL, and NoSQL standards
• Partner with engineers, researchers, and platform teams to translate complex requirements into robust code
• Participate in sprint planning and deliverables to increase delivery streams, code reviews, and appropriate best practices where it is relevant
• Provide focus and mentorship to less experienced talent by leveraging an environment that encourages delivery teams through all aspects across the team.

Our Technology

• We work in new modern, Linux-based infrastructure within Python as the primary development language utilising the full scientific stack involving Numpy, pandas, plotly, and similar libraries as well as high-performance code, such as C++, Rust, and SQL.

Key Competencies

• Our Company provides professional software development experience in a data-centred language. Python experience in particular is desired, though we wish to collaborate with and learn alongside highly sophisticated code from systems that allow an emerging language, such as Go, to be used.
• Strong mathematical background with sound exposure to mathematical and conceptual topics, in Statistics and Mathematics, respectively
• Strong background experience with data pipelines and systems which includes applying or deep experience in testing, delivery, and deployment
• Strong cloud services, engineering, and large team collaboration are essential
• Strong knowledge of any one or more cloud platforms (Google GCP, MongoDB, or AzureDB)
• Excellent problem-solving abilities with large data sets, both structured and unstructured
• Ability to work collaboratively and learn within teams from stakeholders
• Experience with engineering methodologies and applying their effectiveness, e.g. agile development methods on pull request tools
