Purpose of the job
- The Role: Man Group's Middle Office team is responsible for ensuring operational controls, limit monitoring, and portfolio rebalancing across Futures/Indices/Shares/Cash structures. You gain valuable insights into the value and effectiveness of our hedges across all bond markets.
- The Specialist Credit - Discretionary Middle Office plays a key role in supporting the integrity of the firm's capital and portfolio risk set, providing oversight of trading, and managing credit exposures and controlling exposures to external fund administrators. The role requires close collaboration across Front Office Operations, Finance, Compliance, and Technology teams, while actively contributing to operational strategy and process improvement initiatives.
Operative Responsibilities
Credit Fund Operations
- Review and analyze a broad range of fixed income instruments and derivatives - including credit default swaps, bonds, equities, and other structures as relevant.
- Select and monitor key credit markets including US Treasuries, credits, and emerging market credits with constant risk monitoring and minimal errors.
- Ensure that fixed income basis of funds aligns with daily records and notifies clients early forecast errors and implements corrective actions as necessary.
- Partner with finance/business and cross-functional to design and monitor performance metrics to identify potential risks and enhance operational effectiveness.
- Work with fund administrators to reconcile trade and market movements daily in a timely manner.
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reports and schedule, including providing insights from management team's activities, including real-time reconciliations and data reporting.
- Challenge and record trade fixes activities, trades, and mispricing/fix fix, data inconsistencies, ensuring operational accuracy and compliance of system processes.
- Support daily operations monitoring via operational manuals/updates, building out the firm's Operations Compliance and Data Information system dashboard.
- Whatever workloads to be developed and implemented in a timely manner to meet expectations and facilitate data quality by optimizing daily cycle and tracking systems.
- Continuous cycle improvement to maximize reporting and oversight impact to meet minimum standards.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Keep in mind and ensure that operational risks are identified, modeled, controlled, and minimized.
- Manage the Middle Office's daily role in tracking cash, property, cash and liquidity management transactions and reporting results to senior management.
- Participate in the review, development, and testing of new market and management client systems and develop solutions in response to client metrics, regulatory requirements or other factors.
- Consult to cross-functional relationship, training, and collaborating with business leaders, while offering advisory support.
Technical Development & Process Improvement
- Identifies the latest technology improvements by systems analysis, team metrics, and workshop sessions to find creative fund automation.
- Assist/identify in reporting and automation tools to enhance business process, reporting efficiency, and trade-line accuracy.
Specialist Competencies
- Working knowledge of fixed-income industry standards and instruments.
- Understanding of related market-related issues and concepts (e.g., Bloomberg: CDS/Market).
- Experience with key credit portfolio and operational management systems, most notably fixed income accounting software and complex trade reconciliation software such as iNet and Bloomberg.
- Solidly understand operational controls that fit firm's portfolio accounting practices. Understand the accounting frameworks for asset managers and other stakeholders.
- Familiarity with gross market exposure (hedging, correlation examples), and the ability to identify and resolve issues related to swap spreads, and credit trades.
- Proficiently analyze quantitative data. Be able to generate reports that adhere to regulatory frameworks and performance standards.
- Understanding of operational risk metrics and the regulatory transparency relevant to fixed operations in a bank.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage across front offices, operations, finance, and external administrators with experience supporting the firm's operational and reporting information areas.
